Pinewood Derby

The Boy Scout Pinewood Derby was held today. For those of you unfamiliar with the Pinewood Derby, the boys have to take a piece of wood, shape it into a car, sand & paint it, attach the wheels & weights, get it to weigh the correct amount, and then race it down a track in multiple heats. Andrew and Ross have been working on their car for a few weeks now, and we happily announce that Andrew won 2nd place in his den! He was so excited to win a giant trophy and have everyone congratulate him! Of course, Ross deserves some congrats, too, since he pretty much did most of the labor!

star wars craze

We got a LOT of Star Wars toys for Christmas--video games, a movie, the action figures, light sabers, coloring books, etc. We've spent the last week watching Episodes 1-3 on DVR, and they think it's awesome! It can get to be a little too much, I suppose, when you hear your kids pause their Star Wars play to do their own commercial break (complete with details about the next episode), and then start back up again! I guess it's time to turn off the TV.... :)

happy new year?

I have no picts for this post, but I thought it would be cute to share....

Alex has always been afraid of fireworks. Every 4th of July & New Years, we have pictures of him hiding under blankets or going to bed early. He's afraid of the noise they make, and no matter how much we try to reason with him, he doesn't want any part of them. So...on New Year's Eve, we put him to bed at 8:30 before the wild party on our street began. Unfortunately, someone started lighting them off as soon as he crawled into bed. We snuggled in the dark for a few minutes while listening to the popping, and in a very serious, hushed voice he asked, "Are they going to kill us?" It did sound like a battlefield on our street for a few minutes, but I never expected that reaction from him! Needless to say, we put him in bed with Andrew, whose bedroom faces the backyard and all was well until dawn. :) Poor Alex! Hopefully, he'll outgrow this fear b/c Texans celebrate with fireworks in a big way (and for weeks on end). It just occured to me that Disney could be a nightmare in February. Aren't there fireworks every night? Yikes! I'm going to have buy ear plugs or something....
